Benefits of Guitar Lessons
A guitarist learns never to be bored. They can play other people's music, compose their own, improvise and learn from other musicians. They can join bands, accompany themsleves or simply enjoy the act of playing for itself.
The guitar is a flexible, versatile instrument which is suited to many musical styles, making it relevant to a great range of people.
What to expect from Guitar Lessons
Expect a warm, friendly and informal atmosphere. I am very experienced and patient, and will always encourage you to learn at your own pace. I focus on simple achievable goals. This keeps learning fun and the ability to play the guitar becomes its own reward. Parents of young children are welcome to sit in on guitar lessons initially if it helps them to feel comfortable and confident.
What about musical theory ?
A knowledge of Musical Theory is not required to play the guitar. I aim
to provide students with the theoretical knowledge required to play a particular piece of music, be it part of a solo, song or composition, however it's all very informal. If you wish to explore the theoretical side further, we will do this in a way that involves as much playing as possible. Music is a practical subject and is best learnt through actually doing it!
Am I too old / young to have Guitar Lessons ?
The answer to this is definately no! I have taught students of all ages in the past. It is however worth considering that younger children are not all able to concentrate and retain information in the same way older people are. This means that they may not appear to learn much to begin with. The main benefit for them is the opportunity to engage with an instrument and discover how to explore their creativity in a musical fashion. Your Guitar lessons will be built around you.
